The Music
11 - 22 November 2008
Director and choreographer: Ray Jeffery
Musical director: Neil Streeter
The Haymarket, Basingstoke
Evenings: 7:30 pm, Saturday matinees: 3:00 pm
With wonderful songs, from the glorious ‘Seventy-Six Trombones’ to the romantic ‘Till There Was You’, The Music Man is one of the funniest and most heart-warming Broadway musicals ever written, capturing all the innocent charm of a bygone America.
The time - July 4th 1912. The place - River City, Iowa. Enter charismatic conman “Professor” Harold Hill. He convinces the citizens that the best way to deal with trouble-making youths is to recruit them into a boys’ band – and their parents are only too happy to hand over the money for uniforms and instruments.
It’s a scam that’s worked in many places before. But when Harold falls in love with local librarian Marion Paroo and wins the trust of the town’s children, his scheme unravels and he must face the consequences of his fraud...
